Puppy Inquiries

Please review the following FAQ prior to contacting us for a puppy.

First and foremost you should be familiar with the breed. In addition to online research, it is imperative that you meet and interact with multiple examples of the breed in person.

We are happy to help you with this if you live in our region. The northeast has a plethora of dog events that tollers regularly participate in, including dog shows, agility trials, obedience and rally trials, hunt tests, dock diving, etc.

How much is a Sirius Retrievers puppy?

We sell our puppies for $3000 (subject to change). There is no price difference based on intended purpose (show/performance/pet). The price includes AKC limited registration, vet visit and first round of vaccinations, AKC Reunite microchip, and puppy welcome home bag. We also offer 30 days of free Trupanion insurance.

Do you accept deposits? Do you keep a waitlist?

We do not accept deposits and do not maintain a formal waitlist. We will announce key milestones in the breeding process and provide general updates via our Facebook page and website:

  • Confirmation of breeding
  • Confirmation of pregnancy via ultrasound (~30 days post-breeding)
  • Anticipated # of pups as shown via x-ray (~55 days post-breeding)
  • Birth of puppies

Once the puppies are born, we will start to reach out to potential buyers that we feel are a good match to confirm continued interest. Again, no deposits are accepted and we do not guarantee that a puppy will be available at this point. We will never ask for payment prior to picking up your puppy!

How do you select homes for your puppies?

We begin to evaluate puppies for conformation and temperament at 6 weeks, with final evaluations at 8 weeks. Puppies are then matched to the buyer’s intended purpose (show, performance, pet) and other preferences (male/female, etc.). Priority is generally given to show/working homes and repeat buyers/experienced owners. Given that we breed very infrequently (once every 1-3 years), the demand typically far outpaces the number of puppies that we have.

How do we get our puppy? Do you ship?

We do not ship or transport puppies. All puppies must be picked up at our home in Bolton, CT.

Can you refer us to other breeders who may have puppies?

We are unable to keep track of who is having puppies at any given time. The exception would be if one of our stud dogs is being used, we would post on our site, Facebook etc.

As a starting point, we recommend the following resources to obtain a list of breeders:

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club (USA) – Breeder Referral Online Form

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever Club of Canada – Breeder Directory

Can we submit an application for a puppy?

We do not have any imminent breeding plans and are not currently accepting new applications (wait list full).
